Artificial Intelligence (AI), is an intelligent machine that mimics and acts like a human slightly different from a natural intelligence. It is probably the most heard technological terminology these days and it’s no surprise because AI is the backbone of modern society.
Automation is close to AI but not exactly the AI. It has the preset/predetermined rules which it follows and makes the hardware or software run automatically. However, automation doesn’t mimic human intelligence unlike AI.
Artificial Intelligence in Context of Nepal
Though all the other developed countries has already embraced AI in almost all the sectors, it’s still questionable in the context of a developing country like Nepal. So, is Nepal really impacted by the latest innovations and AI? The answer is “yes” as well as “no” at the same time because the AI has not been remarkably used in Nepal. Although some private organizations has been using this technology since a decade but there are no such legal provisions and policies issued by the Government of Nepal regarding Artificial Intelligence as they are still prioritizing labor force.
But the development of AI doesn’t seem to happen in overnight here in Nepal because majority of the people here are not technology friendly. They still believe in physical work rather than computerized tasks. Though this is gradually changing and people are being able to understand and believe in the consequence of AI and automation. Moreover, Artificial Intelligence for Development (AID), a group is working as a research and development organization in Nepal for the AI solution. So, the future of AI in Nepal is a great possibility.
Influence of AI and Automation in work culture
Without an inch of a doubt, AI has the most active and direct impact on our work culture. All the AI based robotics are the ultimate replacement for the human workforce. Sometimes a single AI robotics or automated machine can replace the work equivalent to hundreds of workers. So, it definitely changes the structure, working mechanism and culture of an organization. To the worst part it takes the job away from people replacing them and leading to the unemployment.
But talking about the pros of AI, it may be the game changer of many organizations besides their regular business processes creating a whole new working landscape. The pre-existing working culture will face a whole new transformation.
Having said that it definitely influence the Nepali working culture as well. There is a big possibility that in the near future Nepal will also face the transformation in the pre-existing traditional work culture.
For instance, near about 80% of people are involved in agriculture at present day using the primitive tools and traditional farming approach for ploughing, sowing, irrigation and harvesting. But with the help of artificial intelligence and automation machines like agricultural robots, soil and crop monitoring machine, milking machine, we can use the smart agriculture technology here in Nepal that will certainly benefit and foster the productivity of farmers with double the amount of current profit also with the much more less efforts. Hence from traditional farming to the smart agriculture, it certainly alters and modify the work culture of farmers.
